If you confused and overwhelmed by the number of people running for City Council in Palo Alto, you are not alone! It is a crowded race, with 12 people running for five open spots on a nine-person council.

Palo Alto Pulse is working to help readers sort out these candidates and figure out where they stand on the issues that matter most to Palo Alto citizens, including development, density and the future of Palo Alto.

  • Marc Berman (not up for re-election in 2014)
  • Greg Schmid (not up for re-election in 2014)
  • Liz Kniss, Vice Mayor (not up for re-election in 2014)
  • Gail Price (up for re-election but opted not to run)
  • Larry Klein (termed out so cannot run in 2014)
  • Karen Holman (running for re-election)

Victoria is the founder and editor of Palo Alto Pulse and has lived in Palo Alto since 2007. Victoria's diverse professional background includes working as the editor of GreatSchools.org , as a senior writer for KIPP and Teach for America, and as a radio producer for City Visions on KALW (91.7FM San Francisco). She is a graduate of Leadership Palo Alto and a member of the Palo Alto Partners in Education Advisory Board.

She has a BA in English from Tufts University and Masters in Education and Secondary Teaching Credential in English from UCLA.

  • “Alan Johnston” is called A.C. Johnston. He filed at last minute. He is a managing partner at local law firm. Long time P.A. resident. You’ll hear a lot ore about him in weeks to come I suspect. Very smart guy , moderate and reasonable. Terrific leadership skills. That’s what this next council will need.
